Flood-hit Burnham-On-Sea Infants School re-opens

-

Burnham-On-Sea Infants School re-opens today (Tuesday) following a week-long closure caused by a flood last weekend.

Water gushed out of a faulty boiler system, leaving 2-3 inches of standing water throughout the building, as pictured here.

But after a major clean-up operation and dry-out with industrial fans, the school has confirmed that it is set to re-open.

A spokesperson for the school told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The school will remain closed on Monday but on Tuesday (29th May) we will have enough room space and toilet facilities safely accessible for use, therefore the school will re-open.”

“The extent of the flood has been extremely severe, covering corridors, the computer suite, storage rooms, classes 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5, the staff room, library, children’s kitchen and toilets.”

“School staff began clearing the standing water first thing last Monday morning and the county’s insurance team had attended by lunchtime.”

“Rainbow International were brought in and installed 28 industrial fans and 11 industrial dehumidifiers to continue the drying process. Many parents have offered to help and it is great to feel so supported.”
