Burnham Parkinson’s sufferer raises £1,400 towards finding a cure

-

A bumper cheque for over £1,400 has this week been handed over to a charity seeking a cure for Parkinson’s disease following a fundraising truck pull and music night in Burnham-On-Sea last month.

Dozens took part in the sponsored truck pull outside The Lighthouse Inn and music night at the Oak Tree Arena, organised by Burnham Parkinson’s sufferer John Thatcher.

The two events raised a total of £1,409 and John handed over the cash to the Cure Parkinsons Trust’s Charlie and Vicky Duggan at the Lighthouse Pub.

“I cannot give enough thanks to all the people who inspired, assisted, donated, participated, supported and enthused about the events. Without them all – and my wife playing a huge part – we would never have got this off the ground, let alone raised the money that we did,” John told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“Such is the support that, we are already being encouraged, mainly by those people who were instrumental in the success of these events, to start planning the next one.”

“This money will be spent on clinical trials of an exciting potential cure for Parkinson’s disease which are being carried in a Bristol hospital,” said John.
