man with links to Burnham features on BBC1's Crimewatch
missing registered sex offender who police believe could be in
the Burnham-On-Sea area was featured on BBC1's Crimewatch
on Wednesday evening (November 21st).
Lee Whitting, who was deported from New Zealand in 2010, is a
registered sex offender who has failed to provide police with
information about where he is living.
want to speak to him regarding a serious incident in Taunton,
in which a woman was walking along a canal path when she was pulled
onto an embankment and assaulted.
After a struggle she managed to get away and stop a passing member
of the public while the offender ran away from the scene.
"We need information about where Lee Whitting is. He has
previously led an itinerant lifestyle, sleeping rough, using tents
in wooded areas and also unoccupied caravans," a police spokesman
"Meticulous enquiries have been carried out but we have be
unable to locate him, however we believe that he may be in the
Somerset area, specifically in Taunton, Burnham or Highbridge.
He also has links to York."
Crimewatch viewers were told he is described as white,
around 5ft 9inches tall, of a slim build, with dark brown hair
that is receding, and a beard. He looks unkempt.
Anyone with information about his whereabouts is asked to call
DC Andrew Daw at Taunton CID on 101 or, alternatively, call Crimestoppers
anonymously on 0800 555 111. Police first issued an appeal for
information in October, as reported here.
