A person has been arrested following an accident near Burnham-On-Sea on Sunday (June 24th) in which a motorcyclist died.

Police were called to the busy Lympsham road junction of Brean Road and Rectory Way where a blue Mercedes car and a motorbike collided at around 3.30pm.

Detective Inspector Paul Winship from Avon and Somerset Police told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “I can confirm a collision occurred between a car and a motorbike in which one person died. Police enquiries are underway.”

A yellow Dorset and Somerset air ambulance was also called to the scene and landed nearby, but left without a patient.

Police said on Monday that a man aged 72 had been arrested in connection with the incident on suspicion of dangerous driving and had been released on bail without charge.

Traffic was diverted along alternative roads via Brent Knoll while emergency services were at the scene.

Detectives are appealing for witnesses to the accident to come forward by contacting them on the non-emergency police number 101.
