A video which has been produced to promote Burnham-On-Sea’s bid to win a share of £1million of Mary Portas regeneration funding is being screened at the town’s Ritz Cinema over the Easter holidays.

Burnham’s application for £99,000 from retail guru Mary Portas was formally submitted last Friday following several weeks of work by the recently-formed Town Team (pictured).

The bid includes a short promotional video featuring residents discussing how they would like the town centre improved, interspersed with clips of a group of free-runners passing through the town.

The film’s producer, Ben Metcalfe, told Burnham-On-Sea.com this week: “The Ritz’s owners, Pat and Beryl Scott, were keen to support Burnham’s bid and we are delighted they’re showing our video before their films over the Easter holiday.”

“This will be great for helping us further raise awareness and hopefully gather more supporters for the Town Team, which is a public group.”

If Burnham’s bid is successful, the £99,000 would be spent on turning a ‘vision’ into reality of modernising the town and turning it into a thriving shopping centre.

News of which towns have been successful in securing funding is expected to be announced over the next couple of months. Meanwhile, Burnham’s next Town Team meeting will be held on Tuesday 24th April when all will be welcome.

The video was compiled by Ben Metcalfe, Josh Randall and Richard Hall – and features free-running traceurs Dave, Paul and Alex, several residents, and Burnham’s rescue hovercraft. The music is provided by Vermin by kind permission.
