Open meeting to be held to discuss Burnham’s £1m Mary Portas bid

-

Burnham-On-Sea Chamber of Trade is to hold an open meeting next week to discuss the town’s bid for a share of a £1million cash injection from TV star Mary Portas to improve the town centre.

The meeting is being held for everyone who has expressed an interest in helping the town’s application for cash from a government scheme overseen by TV personality and retail guru Mary Portas (pictured).

The function will be held on Tuesday 13th March at 6pm in the Pizey Room at The Princess Theatre & Arts Centre, Burnham-On-Sea.

Earlier this week, Burnham-On-Sea.com reported here that the Town Council has backed the bid alongside several other town groups and individuals.

Alex Turco, speaking on behalf of Burnham Chamber of Trade at Monday’s meeting, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We are happy to have the backing of the town council but still need more businesses, landlords and representatives of groups to come forward to join the team town which we are setting up.”

He explained the objective of Tuesday’s meeting will be to outline the concept of the Portas Pilot and its relevance to Burnham; to determine the vision for the Town Centre; to outline a plan of action to deliver the vision; to agree that there is a basis of a bid; and, if there is a basis, to agree a division of labour and timescales for writing and filming the bid.
