Mental health illness charity offers help in Burnham-On-Sea

-

The national charity Rethink Mental Illness is launching a new course during July for people with mental health problems in Burnham-On-Sea.

The eight-week course offers a wide variety of activities and is designed to help people build their confidence, improve relationships and end negative cycles of thinking.

The course has already been successfully running in other areas of Somerset since the beginning of this year.

Mandy Willmott from Rethink Mental Illness, who delivers the courses, added: “Our aim is to empower people to manage their condition themselves as far as possible. I have enjoyed seeing people’s positive changes. Mental illness does not have to mean the end of someone’s hopes and dreams.”

The course is free and starts on 12th July. It will take place every Thursday for three-hour long sessions. To attend people need to be referred by their GP or mental health practitioner. For more information, call 07918192889 or 07779259424.

Local resident, Susan, 52, has been on one of the courses and said: “I was very nervous but the staff put me at ease. I found it comforting to talk to other people who were struggling like me. I soon discovered that I could actually help myself and others. I now feel more prepared to deal with whatever life throws at me.”
