Palm
Sunday was marked in Burnham-On-Sea with a special seafront procession
of 70 people, led by a donkey.
The
congregation gathered outside St Andrew's Church for the procession,
which started with prayers and a song in the churchyard.
The
church's Sunday School followed the donkey and the congregation
down Victoria Street and past the Post Office and on to The Esplanade
before finally entering the churchyard again.
Reverend
Graham Witts told Burnham-On-Sea.com: "This is a wonderful
way to begin the week before Easter, which is called Holy Week,
and marks the events in the last week of Christs life."
"The
service in church was led by the Sunday School and their teachers
and acted as a visual aid of the journey Jesus made into Jerusalem."
"Other
events this week will mark other parts of the Passion story with
a Service of Footwashing on Maundy Thursday evening and a Service
of light on Easter Eve."
Full details of the Services can be found in church. This week
sees the beginning of the new churchwatch season with the church
being open from 10am-4pm each day when all will be welcome to
pop in and visit.
