Guides
from Burnham-On-Sea gear up for 15,000ft parachute jump
Two
brave Guides from Burnham-On-Sea are planning to leap out of a
plane at 15,000ft to raise funds for a trip to Mexico.
Beth
Lavis and Vicky Simmons, pictured, will be doing the tandem jump
on May 13th at Dunkeswell Airfield, near Honiton in Devon.
Vicky
told Burnham-On-Sea.com: "We are doing this to help raise
funds for our International Trip next year to Mexico with Girlguiding
Somerset."
"We
will be staying at Our Cabana, one of the four world guiding centres
where we will meet up with Girl Guides and Girl Scouts from all
over the world. It will be an adventure of a lifetime and we will
also be taking part in a community service project during the
visit which will directly benefit the local people."
She
added: "The parachute jump will be a huge challenge as I
am pretty frightened of heights, so this experience will not be
easy! Despite the nerves we are both looking forward to doing
it - it will be an adventure and a
challenge."
Beth
is a young leader with 1st Berrow Guides and Vicky is Brown Owl
at 1st Berrow Brownies. The pair have been asking local businesses
in Burnham to sponsor them and the response has been positive.
"We would like to thank GH Tyres Ltd, June and Terry's shop,
The Inn Plaice Fish and Chip Shop, Victoria Place Pet Shop, Burnham
on Sea Hair Academy, Cafe Aroma, Thomas' Key Cutting and Shoe
Menders, Burnham Dental Laboratory, Burnham Insurance Services,
Avon Mobility, The Bead Shop, Meyrick Opticians, Home Hardware
and The Port Front Cafe," added Vicky.
