Poets wanted! Wordsmiths invited to join Somerset poetry contest

-

Burnham-On-Sea residents are being encouraged to join a poetry challenge this month.

People aged 18 and over are being invited to submit a poem of 250 words or less about what they like most about Somerset.

The poem should be about Somerset’s rich history, personalities, countryside, towns or coastline.

The top five entries to the competion – which is being run by Somerset Skills and Learning – will have their poem illustrated and turned into a postcard.

And the overall winner will also receive a £50 learning voucher to redeem against any of the courses available through Somerset Skills and Learning.

Details of the contest are featured in the new Somerset Skills and Learning brochure, featuring local course listings.

“We have run competitions for artists and photographers in previous editions of our brochure, so now it is the turn of the wordsmiths”, Somerset Skills and Learning’s Marketing Manager Ade Bowen told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“We want people to create beautiful and inspirational pictures using words.”

For further details, see the online competitions page at www.learnsomerset.co.uk, or pick up a copy of the brochure from the Burnham adult learning centre in Princess Street or from either Burnham or Highbridge libraries.
