Ceremony held to unveil plaque at Highbridge railway monument

-

A ceremony has been held to unveil a new plaque at a Highbridge monument marking the town’s long railway history.

The set of railway bogie wheels was installed next to the Walrow roundabout in Isleport, Highbridge last year and this week’s ceremony saw a plaque being unveiled to thank the supporters who enabled it to be built.

Local businessman Mike Lawrence, whose business interests include road haulage of large locomotives, donated the wheels free of charge to Burnham and Highbridge Town Council after being approached by town councillor Pat Burge.

Burnham and Highbridge Mayor Ken Smout was among those attending this week’s ceremony, pictured here.
