Fly-tipping
could lead to recycling facilities being axed in Berrow

Recycling
facilities in Berrow could soon be removed due to increasing concerns
about fly-tipping and the mis-use of the waste bins.
Berrow
Parish Council has written to residents asking for opinions on
whether the recycling banks in the Triangle Car Park, pictured,
should be axed.
Council
clerk Lynn Smith told Burnham-On-Sea.com: "Removing them
would free up an extra three parking spaces and would stop the
incessant mis-use of the facilities by people who fly-tip and
leave domestic and business waste around the containers."
"This
has been a problem for many, many months and hopefully would stop
if the recycling banks were removed."
She
added that many residents now use the 'Sort It Plus' roadside
recycling scheme and therefore do not use the banks.
However,
she added: "The feedback so far has been split evenly between
those who feel they should go and those who disagree. Some residents
say the kerbside collections are too restrictive so they prefer
to use the recycling banks. Others are saying the fly-tipping
is so bad that it poses a health and safety risk at some times
of the year."
A
final decision is due to be taken by Berrow Parish Council on
February 7th.
