Pensioners at Burnham care home pay their respects to war dead

-

Elderly residents at Burnham-On-Sea’s Frith House – some of whom are war veterans – have taken part in a special outdoor remembrance service.

More than 30 pensioners, staff and families took part in the service outside the care home, including Burnham and Highbridge Mayor Ken Smout and members of local services.

The service included hymns, the traditional playing of the Last Post and two minutes silence in memory of those who lost their lives in the two world wars.

Wreaths and crosses were also laid in the garden area outside the building and the service ended with the playing of National Anthem.

Many of the residents are too frail to take part in Burnham or Highbridge’s formal Remembrance Day ceremonies, which are being held on Sunday.
