More than £700 was raised for the RNLI during a fundraising car wash at Burnham-On-Sea lifeboat station on Saturday (28th January), the first of two such events.

Ninety vehicles were washed by the station’s volunteers over the course of four hours, raising a total of £720.90.

Each car was carefully soaped using professional car wash chemicals and cleaning materials, before being rinsed to achieve a perfect finish.

A second car wash will be held next Saturday (4th February) at the lifeboat station in Pier Street from 10am-2pm when payment will be by donation.

The events are being held as part of the RNLI’s national fundraising event when schools, businesses and families will be holding fundraising events that follow an SOS theme, such as ‘Sizzle our Sausages’ and ‘See Our Stamina’. Burnham’s is called ‘Soap Our Saloons’.

This year, the Burnham crew is raising money to help upgrade the station’s lifejackets. The RNLI has developed a high-performance lifejacket that offers, among other things, improved mobility.
