Busy route through Highbridge to close for roadworks during May

A main road through Highbridge will be shut on several evenings during May while major roadworks go ahead.

Somerset County Council has this week announced that Church Street will be closed from May 14th-23rd from 6.30pm-11.30pm while resurfacing work is undertaken.

A spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com that diversions will be in operation to redirect traffic around the closures to minimise disruption.

"The roadworks will cover an area between the Market Street roundabout and Burnham Road - the work will include resurfacing of the road plus additional kerb improvements."

The need for improvements to Church Street was raised by town councillors last autumn. As reported here, Cllr Neville Jones said the "crumbling surface" of Church Street was in "an appalling condition".

Several traders along Church Street have already voiced concerns about the possible impact of the closure on their businesses.
