Police name man who died in rhyne crash near Burnham-On-Sea

A man who died after a crash in Rooksbridge on Tuesday has been named by police.

Michael Thornton, aged 30 from the East Brent area, died during the early hours of the morning.

Police were called to reports of a Land Rover Discovery on its roof in a rhyne, off Pill Road, at about 1.40am.

Mr Thornton was one of three men in the vehicle. He received treatment at the scene but died later.

A 26-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and has been released on police bail, pending further enquiries.

The force’s collision investigation unit has repeated its appeal for witnesses. Police would like to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident or may have seen a Land Rover Discovery. Call the force number 101.
