World record sandcastle building bid to be held in Burnham-On-Sea

Buckets and spades will be at the ready when a world record attempt to build the most sandcastles in one hour is made on Burnham-On-Sea beach.

Sponsors are currently being sought for the event, which will be held on Saturday June 2nd during the town's Queen's Jubilee celebrations.

The event is being jointly organised by Burnham Coastguards, BARB, RNLI and Burnham Lions.

The record bid will be held on the town's beach, north of the Pavilion, following a parade of local schoolchildren marching from Highbridge's Apex Park to the seafront.

One of the organisers, Ian Jefferies, told "The day is being planned as part of a free family fun day where the community can come together and be part of the Jubilee celebrations over the weekend. The record attempt will be open to all that wish to take part, with families all very welcome to join in."

"We hope to be able to supply buckets because they will all have to meet strict size requirements for the record to be broken. Our aim is to make this a free event for all and we are seeking sponsors who wish to be a part of the day."

If any local businesses wish to contribute to this day they can contact the organiser on 07724995631 or email him here.
