Best in the west! Burnham-On-Sea’s Sea Cadets win top competition

-

Burnham-On-Sea’s Sea Cadets are celebrating again after winning a south west drill competition at the weekend.

Following their success last month, Burnham’s TS Dulverton unit took part in the South West area competition at HMS Raleigh in Plymouth.

They competed against the best teams from each district – from Telford to Land’s End.

Despite this being the unit’s first attempt at this level, having previously competed in the 2011 national event for smaller units, they did incredibly well by winning the overall unarmed competition.

They also won both the runner-up and best dressed section, and the group – comprising Cdt M Severe, POC M Tutton, LC W Astill, OC I Howard, OC Yates and Cdt Hancock – also produced the overall best dressed squad and had the best squad commander trophy (POC M Tutton).

Lt Bob Silverthorne, Commanding Officer, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “I am already immensely proud of our cadets and now look forward to a challenge of the National competition to be held at the end of April.”

The unit is based in Cassis Close, Burnham, and is open to 10-12 year olds on Thursday evenings from 7-9pm and 12-18 year-olds on Monday and Thursday evenings from 7-9.30pm. For more details, call 01278 781028, email here or drop in on a parade night.
