Sanders Garden World, near Burnham-On-Sea, has a new owner this week after a multi-million pound deal was announced.

The Garden Centre Group, which currently owns the Brent Knoll business, has agreed to sell its brands to Terra Firma, a private equity firm, in a deal worth £276m.

The Garden Centre Group, previously known as Wyevale, had been on the market since last year.

In spite of being the largest business in a UK gardening industry worth £5bn a year, the group’s debt burden was insurmountable, and lenders took control in 2008 through a debt-for-equity-swap.

Nicholas Marshall, The Garden Centre Group’s Chief Executive, said: “I am delighted that the uncertainty over the group’s ownership is now resolved. The group now has solid foundations in place from which to grow.”
