Highbridge sidecar racing duo gear up for shot at British title

-

A Highbridge-based Formula 2 sidecar racing team hopes to fulfill their dream of winning the British Championships in 2012.

After a hugely successful debut season in 2011 for Dean Nicholls and Anne Garnish, when they secured their first wins and a third place in two rounds of the national championships, the next step is the Auto Cycle Union (ACU) and Formula Sidecar Racing Association (FSRA) British Formula 2 Championships.

Highbridge’s Lumley Engineering has been working throughout the winter to improve and prepare their machine.

However, without sponsorship, the team’s 2012 season would have been in jeopardy. Fortunately, a Rugby-based businessman, Peter Blay of health and safety specialists QEH Systems, has come forward to give financial support.

Dean and Anne are now looking forward to testing at Mallory Park in February and then competing in the British Championships at Snetterton, Norfolk in March.

Dean, 49, of Highbridge Motor Tech is the driver of the 599cc Formula 2 Lumley Engineering Kawasaki sidecar. He moved to the discipline after years of racing motorcycles. “It should be a very exciting season of racing ahead,” he told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
