Burnham police issue appeal after ‘priceless’ bronze statue is stolen

-

Burnham-On-Sea Police have appealed for witnesses after a huge metal sculpture, weighing more than a ton, was stolen from a garden in Brent Knoll earlier this week.

The bronze sculpture of a boat on a wave, pictured here, was removed from outside a property in Brent Knoll on Monday (June 25th) at around 10pm.

The owner, who has asked to remain anonymous, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It is so sentimental to my family that the value is priceless.”

She added: “The sculpture weighs at least one ton in bronze so it would have taken several people to carry it, plus a large vehicle to take it away.”

“It was designed and cast on site by a member of the family in memory of his grandmother. Although the item is very valuable, the sentimental value is priceless. We would be so grateful for any information on where it has gone or who took it.”

Burnham-On-Sea Police confirmed an investigation is underway and they appealed for anyone with information to get in touch via the non-emergency police number 101 or anonymously using Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 quoting crime reference number 69558/12.

Sgt Ian Kennett of Burnham Police told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It is a very distinctive sculpture with a lot of sentimental value. We are keen to hear from anyone who saw people acting suspiciously in the area on Monday evening or, indeed, has information about its whereabouts.”
