A severe weather warning has been issued for the South West, including the Burnham-On-Sea area, for today (Sunday).

The Met Office says torrential downpours could cause localised flooding, and gusts of up to 50mph are expected.

A ‘yellow alert’ is in force, with heavy rain expected along with gales, particularly later today and into Monday.

A Met Office spokesperson said: “The centre of low pressure is expected to move north across the South West on Sunday night, leading to strong winds as it moves to the north with notably heavy rain with the potential for some torrential downpours.”

It says a further 25-50mm of rain is expected through the night and it is monitoring the storm.

“Both the heavy rain and very strong winds have the potential to cause localised disruption. However, there remains a large amount of uncertainty at present in the detail of where the heaviest rainfall is likely to be.”
