Rain
fails to stop play for Burnham-On-Sea school's tennis club visit
Youngsters
from Burnham-On-Sea Infants School enjoyed a morning of fun at
the town's Avenue Tennis Club despite the weather doing its best
to spoil the visit!
Teacher
David Quint and several teaching assistants walked the pupils
from the school to the club for the special coaching session with
Avenue Head Coach Vinny Duddy.
"The
session started on our outdoor courts with some tennis games aimed
at teaching the 'ready position' and forehand through some ball
and catching games," Vinny told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
"Unfortunately,
the weather got too wet to continue despite much enthusiasm and
determination from the youngsters and the adults to stay with
it."
"But
the weather did not win the day as Mr Quints class went
into the club house and played indoors instead. Balloon tennis
proved a huge success with the pupils split into four teams playing
off against each other and finishing with balloon tennis volleyball
with the adults joining in too."
Vinny
added: "It was great to see such enthusiasm, interest and
enjoyment shown by the kids despite the weather and I thank Mr
Quint and his team for their efforts in making the morning a huge
success by bringing the kids along."
He
said the Coaching Team has now visited many schools in the area
during a Summer School Tennis Blitz, which had seen nearly 1,500
children visited. Vinny said there remains an open invitation
to all the schools in the area to bring classes along to the club
for a morning of tennis free of charge.
Meanwhile,
forms are also now available for the Avenue Tennis Club's Summer
Holiday Club which will run for four of the weeks during the summer
holiday. Parents can book from 1 to 19 days of tennis coaching
through fun games and drills, from 9am until 4pm daily. Details
and forms are available from the club.
The
club's Annual LTA Grade 3 Adult and Junior Open Tournaments will
also run from the 15th-19th August and 20th-25th August respectively.
The entry will be open to players from all around the county and
country.
