Scaffolding has gone up outside Burnham-On-Sea’s Princess Theatre this week as work begins on the building’s £50,000 external overhaul.

Town councillors in Burnham recently approved a raft of improvements to the exterior of the theatre in Princess Street, including urgent roof repairs.

The council’s Princess Management Committee undertook a competitive tendering process and appointed a local building firm to undertake the £49,744 of work.

The cash has been allocated from £90,640 of ‘transitional funding’ which the Town Council received from Sedgemoor District Council during last year’s handover of the building.

The theatre will be open as usual throughout the construction work, which is set to last several weeks.
