video and photos: Truck pull in Burnham pulls in charity funds
in Burnham-On-Sea pulled together to raise hundreds of pounds
for a charity seeking a cure for Parkinson's disease on
Saturday (September 15th).
Dozens took part in a sponsored truck pull outside Burnham's Lighthouse
Inn, organised by Parkinson's sufferer John Thatcher and supporter
Andy Stone, as pictured here.
More than 40 people heaved the eight tonne truck across
the car park in a series of races, watched by cheering onlookers.
The event was followed by a night of music and comedy at the Oak
Tree Arena in Highbridge, all in
aid of the Movers and Shakers charity which wants to find a cure
for Parkinson's. Among the performers were comedian Buster,
music group Ping and I and Soul Rhymaz.
thanked all those who had supported the event and told Burnham-On-Sea.com
why he is doing the fundraising: "Parkinson's is a progressive,
debilitating, condition with no cure and MS is a debilitating
condition with no cure. There
is very little public funding for research into cures for these
conditions. I am determined to fight to find a cure until I am
no longer capable of fighting and will do almost anything for
this cause." To support John's fundraising, click here.
