Hot weather gives tourism trade a boost in Burnham-On-Sea

Soaring temperatures have given Burnham-On-Sea a welcome financial boost as the good weather attracts large numbers of visitors.

Temperatures in Burnham peaked over the weekend at 21°C (69.8°F) on Saturday - and the good weather created queues for ice creams and left High Street shops busier than normal.

Louise Parkin from Burnham Pavilion told sales of ice creams and cool refreshments had been "marvellous" throughout the weekend, adding: "The great weather has really brought out visitors and put people in a good mood."

And Sonya Fudge from the Bay View Cafe added: "Our trade was well up on normal March weekends. It's been a good start to the season."

Many accommodation providers in Burnham-On-Sea say they too were boosted by the weather with an upturn in last-minute weekend bookings.

The Met Office says the hot weather is due to continue today (Monday) with temperatures reaching 20°C during another fine, dry and very warm day before cooler weather arrives mid-week.
