Brean Land Yacht Club members compete in World Championships

-

Three members of Brean Land Yacht Club have represented Great Britain at the World Land Yacht Championships this week.

The trio – Ron Frewin, Martyn Hale and Caroline Hart – travelled to Cherrieux in France to take part against competitors from as far afield as Brazil, Argentina, Australia and the USA.

In the Mini Yacht Class, which was raced over 3 days, Caroline Hart came 52nd and was the 3rd best overall lady.

In the Standart Class, Ron Frewin and Martyn Hale raced over five days with varying weather conditions, ranging from very light winds to very strong. The rain was a problem as it made the course very wet and sticky.

Ron was very consistent all week and did well to finish the event in 18th place. And Martyn, who started the event slowly, came good on the final two days with three top 10 finishes and three top 15 finishes to come 16th overall in the championships.

“Nine races were achieved and some very close racing was seen by large crowds on all five days,” Martyn told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
