Burnham-On-Sea’s MP Tessa Munt has joined forces with local teenager Ayesha Kirton to launch a new campaign with the national charity Anorexia and Bulimia Care to help young people with body image issues and eating disorders.

Tessa has been working with Wedmore-based ABC for the past three years to help to raise the profile of the desperate and often tragic results of Anorexia and Bulimia.

Jo Swinson, Minister at the Department of Business, Innovation and Skills, who has been leading a push for Body Confidence in Westminster, visited our area this week to launch the campaign.

The MP said: “I know how much eating disorders can affect people and it is a lot more serious than many people realise. We need greater awareness of these disorders in society and improved systems of support.”

“Young people need to feel they can talk about their issues. I am thrilled that Ayesha was able to join Jo, ABC and I to launch this campaign. Ayesha is a wonderful young lady and a fantastic ambassador for this cause and at just 18 she hugely impresses me – when our young adults stand up and take action like this people listen and I commend her for everything she is doing.”
