Next week's Apex Play Day will be 'bigger than ever' say organisers

Organisers of an annual fun-filled play day in Highbridge's Apex Park say this year's event will be bigger than ever.

Over 50 activities will be offered to children of all ages at the annual event, which will take place on Wednesday 7th August between 10am and 3pm.

Activities include archery, canoeing, paint balling, the climbing wall, arts and crafts, a Forest School, Tai Chi and Qigong, the Man from Story Mountain, South American crafts and stories, music and movement, circus skills and street dancing.

There will also be a chance to get involved with magic, rope building, inflatables, football, play rangers, drumming, donkeys, Edu pets, model boating, Zorbs and safe fishing.

Activities are mainly for children aged 0 – 14yrs and all youngsters must be accompanied by an adult.

Families are welcome to bring their own picnics and there will be a variety of food and drink on offer.

There is limited car parking at Apex Park and a suggested donation of £2.00 per car for parking is being encouraged to help fund next year’s Play Day.

"We would like to ask all those planning on attending to walk, lift share or use public transport wherever possible to try and reduce congestion," said an organiser. "Also, if the hot weather continues, please be prepared by bringing your sun cream, hats and water!"

The event is part of a national initiative called Play Day which encourages thousands of children to get outside and play. It is a free event and for the past five years it has been run at Apex Park.

This year’s theme is titled ‘playful places’ and the event is organised by a committee of people who are interested and have a passion for Play.

Sedgemoor District Council has this week also announced that Apex Park has received a Green Flag Award for 2013/14 which is the seventh year running. During the Play Day, the new Green Flag will be raised.
