Free guided wildlife walks to be held at Highbridge’s Apex Park

-

Two free events are to be held at Highbridge’s Apex Park this month for local wildlife enthusiasts.

Both events are being organised by Sedgemoor District Council to encourage new visitors to the award-winning park.

On Thursday 16th May, a moth evening will take place, led by John Bebbington of the Somerset Moth Group.

After a talk on ‘how butterflies and moths use colour’, he will lead a night-walk around the park to see what moths can be found.

The event will start at 8.30pm at the Information Centre in the Apex car park.

Walking shoes or boots plus clothing appropriate for the weather should be worn, and bringing a torch is advised. Visitors will be welcome to leave whenever they wish, but the event may continue as late as 11.30pm.

On Saturday 18th May a free family-friendly guided walk, led by members of the Somerset Ornithological Society, will be held. The walk will look at the varied range of birds that can be seen in the different habitats of the park.

It will start at 10am at the Apex Park Information Centre. Visitors should bring walking shoes/boots and clothing appropriate for the weather plus binoculars or a telescope if you have them.

For further details of either event, contact Sedgemoor District Council’s Ecologist, Pete Grainger, on 01278 435381.
