A man has been arrested by police in Burnham-On-Sea after allegedly approaching several schoolgirls in the town earlier this week.

Police said the incident occurred on Monday afternoon when the man was reported to have approached several girls in Highbridge.

“This was reported to us and later that day a man was arrested,” a police spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“The 24 year-old was subsequently charged with causing or inciting a girl aged 13 to 15 to engage in sexual activity, two counts of causing or inciting a female child under 13 to engage in sexual activity and three counts of prohibiting a sexual offences prevention order.”

The incident is under investigation by Bridgwater CID and anyone who has information on this incident, or was approached and has not yet spoken to police, is asked to contact DC Kate Gillett via the non-emergency police number 101.
