Police have appealed for witnesses after a suspected arson attack in Burnham-On-Sea during the early hours of yesterday (Tuesday).

The fire service was initially called to Chichester Close at 12.32am after reports of a fire alarm activating.

While the crew was on their way to the scene, the fire service received a second call informing them that there was a fire within the laundry building and a further two fire engines from Bridgwater were mobilised.

“The crew confirmed that this was a small fire within a laundry building at the premises which was detached from the main building,” a spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com. “Crews got to work fighting the fire using a hose reel jet and two sets of breathing apparatus.”

“The cause was believed to be deliberate as there were signs of forced entry and the police were called.”

Burnham Police have appealed for any witnesses who saw suspicious activity in the area to contact the non-emergency police number 101.
