Bumper Bank Holiday trade enjoyed across Burnham-On-Sea area

Tourism businesses in Burnham-On-Sea have enjoyed a bumper Bank Holiday week as sunny weather attracted crowds of visitors.

These were the busy scenes on Burnham beach on Monday when temperatures in the town reached 20C. They rose even higher yesterday (Tuesday) to 22.3C, the warmest day of the year so far.

At one point, there were no free spaces in Burnham's Pier Street car park on Monday, right, as motorists flocked to the town.

Mayor Ken Smout told "It's been great to see Burnham so busy in the hot weather this week. Local tourism businesses have been saying they have had a bumper week."

And Ian Jefferies, Manager at Burnham's BIARS tourist information centre, added: "I'm delighted to see the area bustling over the past few days. Many shops and businesses have had a great few days of trade."

"With so many events happening in Burnham this summer, we hope this is the start of a busy tourist season ahead."

One of Burnham's holiday traditions, the beach donkeys, were popular. Owner Debbie Banwell said the the donkeys had been kept busy. Punch and Judy entertainer Paul Wheeler also had a "very busy" weekend.

Burnham-On-Sea Chamber of Trade said many traders along Burnham High Street had also reported brisk trade over the weekend, with some shops even selling out of cold drinks on Sunday.

There were also busy scenes in Brean and Berrow as well, where holiday parks were busy. Hundreds of cars were parked along Brean beach on Monday, as pictured below, earning the Parish Council thousands of pounds.
