Tenants across the Burnham-On-Sea area who are suffering from the effects of the ‘Bedroom Tax’ are being offered a helping hand by Homes in Sedgemoor.

An event is to be held in early August when advice will be given to tenants who have been hit by a reduction in housing benefit for having too many bedrooms.

A Mutual Exchange event is being held on 7th August from 4-6pm at The Children’s Centre, 7 Coronation Road, Highbridge.

The event will provide information about Mutual Exchanges, where a home swap is arranged with another social housing tenant, with permission from their respective landlords. Residents then take on the tenancy rights of the property they move into.

“For those struggling to manage a large property or wanting to move closer to friends and family these events could be very useful. But these may also be very useful for those in need of a larger property too,” said Clive Sullivan, Homes in Sedgemoor’s Communications & Engagement Officer.

Dawn Lang, Chief Executive of Homes in Sedgemoor, pictured, added: “We are pleased to be able to offer our tenants the chance to attend these events and hopefully find a solution to their housing requirements.”

Tenants are advised to request information packs and property sheets beforehand to give them the best chance of getting the property they want. To do this, contact Homes in Sedgemoor on 0800 585 360 / 01278 552400, or SHAL on 01278 444344.
