Join conservation group’s Berrow dunes clean on Sunday

-

Berrow’s sand dunes are set to be tidied up by a group of conservation volunteers on Sunday (February 24th) with members of the public welcome to join them.

Bristol University Conservation Group will be making their annual visit to the nature reserve to undertake sea buckthorn scrub clearance – and would be glad of any additional help.

“Since its introduction less than a century ago, the sea buckthorn has spread over about half of the reserve, leading to the loss of much of the species-rich grassland habitat,” a spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

Anyone wishing to help out should meet at 1030 a.m. in the Local Nature Reserve car park.

The reserve is owned and managed by Sedgemoor District Council and is included within the Berrow Dunes Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).

Anyone who wants to take part in the event should contact the council’s landscape officer on 0845 408 2540.
