Hovercraft crews and Coastguards from Burnham-On-Sea took part in a major rescue exercise on Berrow beach on Wednesday evening (May 1st).

The rescue of several ‘casualties’ from deep mud was carried out ahead of the busy tourist season getting underway.

While the BARB and Coastguard crews take part in training every week throughout the year, this exercise and audit provided an opportunity for both to work closely together in a common beach rescue scenario.

Burnham Coastguard Station Officer Steve Bird told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It was a very successful evening where the teams worked well together. We hope that incidents like this do not unfold for real over the summer, but it is important that we are ready to handle them if required.”
