'Possible suspect' identified in council probe into beach waste

Sedgemoor District Council says information about a 'possible suspect' has been passed to its enforcement officers as it continues to investigate who has dumped several tonnes of builder's waste onto Berrow beach. first reported here how several beach walkers had been shocked to find discarded bricks, breeze blocks, earth and wooden stakes with exposed nails on the sand, as pictured.

The council, which manages the beach, said it will not hesitate to take legal action when it finds who left the material.

District council spokeswoman Sam Taylor told on Thursday: "Information on a possible suspect has been passed to our Enforcement Officer following a further incident reported to us."

"This information is being considered and contact will be made with the potential suspect."

"SDC continue to appeal to the public to contact us if they see any incidents of fly-tipping across the district."

"It is only with public support and timely information that we can successfully attempt to prosecute those who fly-tip."
