Historical carnival film is launched at Burnham-On-Sea’s Ritz Cinema

-

A new historical film that tracks 40 years of Somerset’s carnivals was launched in Burnham-On-Sea this week.

The 90-minute DVD, called ‘Film of the Decades – 40 years of Illuminated Carnivals’, had its first public screening at Burnham’s Ritz Cinema.

An audience of 100 people, who included Burnham and Highbridge’s Mayor, Ken Smout, attended the special screening.

The DVD was originally made for The Queen last year to mark her Diamond Jubilee and a reply was received from her Lady In Waiting thanking the makers from the Carnivals In Somerset Promotion Project (CISPP).

“Several people heard we’d made the film and asked whether they could see a copy and this is how the show came about,” the group’s Chairman, Andrew Tallon, told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“Burnham was our premier show and we had a capacity audience with some people having to be turned away. All secondary schools will be sent a copy free of charge to help promote carnivals.”

He thanked Pat Scott from The Ritz for giving the screen free for the night. The next screening of the film will be held on 5th June at 8pm at the Tor Leisure Centre in Glastonbury when tickets will be £5 each. More details on 01963 440472 or click here.
