A brick wall at the base of Highbridge’s town clock is to be replaced with a more ‘welcoming design’ at a cost of almost £3,000.

Town councillors on the Town Projects Committee have voted in favour of the expense at their latest meeting.

The current wall is to be dismantled, electrical rewiring work is to be undertaken, and a new wall and welcome sign will be installed.

Cllr Paul Young told the meeting that the fresh look would be “more welcoming and would smarten up the busy roundabout”.

The meeting heard that three quotes had been received for the work, ranging from £2,886 to £4,297, with the lowest being chosen.

The clock was officially unveiled last year as part of the town’s Jubilee celebrations, as featured here, after a lengthy fundraising campaign.
