A project to create a new community garden in Burnham-On-Sea that aims to encourage youngsters to grow healthy food has got underway this weekend.

A disused area of land at the rear of the Burnham Area Youth Centre in Cassis Close is being transformed into the new facilities.

On Saturday (April 6th), volunteers from Burnham Police, the BAY Centre, BARB and Burnham Dreamscheme joined forces to start work on building the garden, as pictured here.

The project is being overseen by Burnham Dreamscheme with financial support from Burnham and Highbridge Town Council and Somerset County Council.

John Alexander, Burnham Dreamscheme leader, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We are very grateful to all those who helped us on Saturday as the first stage of the landscaping work got underway.”

He added: “The formal ornamental garden at the BAY Centre has suffered from vandalism and neglect in recent years and is therefore being put to good use, allowing the young members of Burnham Dreamscheme – and other users – to plant and grow vegetables which we hope to sell.”

Anybody who wants to get involved in the project or become a leader at Burnham Dreamscheme can contact John on 07961 049868.
