New safety calls after second crash at Burnham accident blackspot

-

New safety concerns have been raised this week after a second crash in a month at an accident blackspot near Burnham-On-Sea.

Two people were taken to hospital after their Vauxhall Corsa left the road in Burnham Moor Lane and ended up on its side in a water-filled ditch yesterday (Monday), as pictured here.

Three fire engines and two ambulances were among the emergency services sent to the scene at about 12.30pm.

Alice Stanes from South Western Ambulance Service told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We received a call at 12.36pm from the fire service to attend a single vehicle road traffic collision. Two patients were involved – one an elderly female – and both were taken to Weston General Hospital with minor injuries.”

Burnham Moor Lane has seen several similar accidents in recent years, including one just last month, prompting calls for a re-think on safety.

Councillor Bill Hancock, who lives at the nearby Oaktree Arena, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It’s time that some safety improvements are made. New road markings warning motorists to go slow are needed. Sadly, it’s only time before there is a serious accident here and someone is killed.”
