Torrential rain fails to dampen spirits as cream tea raises £750

-

Torrential rain failed to halt a fundraising cream tea in Burnham-On-Sea on Saturday afternoon (August 3rd).

More than 100 people turned out to brave heavy showers to support the Highbridge Festival Of The Arts Cream Tea.

The fundraiser, at White Lodge in Rectory Road, raised £750 towards next year’s 67th Festival.

“The Festival Committee would like to thank Liz Claydon for the use of her house and her lovely gardens and all the people who braved the big downpours that occurred during the afternoon,” one of the organisers, Greg Fear, told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

Burnham and Highbridge’s Mayor, Cllr Martin Cox, attended the event to announce the winners of the raffle, which itself raised over £200.

“We are very pleased with this outcome and we are still looking for people who are interested in helping or being friend of the festival,” added Greg.

To get involved with the festival, contact General Secretary Maureen Phillips on 01278 780615 or Chairman Denise Berry on 01278 780345 for details.
