New curate welcomed by congregation at Burnham-On-Sea church

-

Burnham-On-Sea’s St Andrew’s Church has welcomed a new curate this week.

A large congregation gathered at the church on Sunday to welcome Reverened Sharon Eldergill, who is to be an Assistant Curate.

Sharon and her husband were welcomed by members of the wider community including the Deputy Mayor, Cllr Pauline Pollard, and Mr Gavin Morris, the acting head teacher of St Andrew’s School, along with members of the church’s own Sunday School, churchwardens and Mothers Union.

She has completed a three-year training course part-time in Salisbury and will now work in the parish. She and her husband Dave have moved from Weston where she was a member of St Paul’s Church.

Reverend Graham Witts said: “We welcome Sharon to Burnham and I know she will be a great asset to the church and community. We have known Sharon for three years as my wife, Mary, and I were her local tutors for her training course and know she has much to offer the wider community. She like Fr. Paul will work with me in all aspects of parish ministry, sharing in the joys and sorrows of people’s lives.”

Sharon was ordained in a packed service along with other curates including the Revernd Simon Bale who will be working with Reverend Sharon Crossman and Reverend Tonya Nixon in Highbridge, with East and West Huntspill and Mark.
