Users of a Burnham-On-Sea Children’s Day Care service have been reassured that its future is not in jeopardy in light of the possible closure of the Octopus Children’s Centre.

The Daycare Centre is based in the same building as Burnham’s Octopus Children’s Centre which, as we first reported last week, is in jeopardy of closing due to Somerset County Council cutbacks.

However, Julie Bennett, Childcare Manager of Octopus Daycare, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The Daycare Centre is run separate to the Children’s Centre and is funded by parents’ fees and nursery education.”

“It does not require County Council funding and whilst we are located in the same building, the Octopus Daycare Centre is not affected by the council’s cuts.”

“It is safe and will still be here if the proposals go through to close to the Octopus Centre.”

She added: “We do feel exceedingly sad for the Octopus Centre staff and work closely with them.”

The daycare centre provides care for children aged 2-8 years-old.

A decision on whether the Octopus Children’s Centre will close will be made at the end of this week, Friday November 22nd. A decision had originally been planned for Monday but has been delayed.
