Burnham-On-Sea resident calls for more dog waste bins in town

Residents in Burnham-On-Sea have this week called for more dog waste bins to be introduced in the town and higher fines for those that let their pets foul pavements.

The call comes amid rising numbers of complaints from residents who are angry at dog mess being left on pavements.

Sandra Davis from Willis Court, pictured, told "Dog mess is becoming a real problem."

"It is so unpleasant for walkers and poses a danger to children playing in the area."

"I would like to see the council introducing more dog waste bins and higher fouling to encourage pet owners to act responsibly."

She has asked the town council to install new bins in the Willis Court area, besides Burnham's Marine Drive.

A spokeswoman for Burnham and Highbridge Town Council says it "fully considers" any request, but added that the need has to be balanced against the costs.

Each dog bin costs the Town Council £150 to purchase and install. A 'service charge' from the district council of £420 per year to empty it three times a week.
