Two dog owners have thanked Burnham-On-Sea Coastguards for their prompt response after a beach drama at Brean on Saturday (February 9th).

The owner of a German Shepherd Cross raised the alarm after her pet got into difficulty while chasing seagulls.

“She’d run down the beach after the birds and disappeared from view around the point at Brean Down,” owner Claire Hutchins told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“She didn’t return when called and we were getting concerned that she’d got stuck.”

Fellow dog owner Dave Stephenson, pictured, walked out along the shingle at the bottom of the Down to see if he could spot the missing animal.

Coastguards and a BARB hovercraft were called as a precaution in case anyone got into difficulty given the incoming tide.

Claire added: “Fortunately, Dave managed to get the attention of missing Lola and lead her back to safety, unharmed. We were really impressed by the quick response of the Coastguards – it was reassuring to know they were there – and I am so releived that Lola was not harmed.”
