World record bid by dog owners near Burnham thwarted by heatwave

-

A bid to beat the world record for the most dog owners taking part in a simultaneous stay was beaten by the weather on Sunday (July 21st).

Dog owners group Little Orchard had asked people to visit the Oaktree Speedway arena near Burnham to join the attempt to beat the current Guinness World Record of 650 dogs.

The organisers were hoping to exceed that number, but in the end there were around 150 dogs at the crucial time.

“We are disappointed not to have set a new record, but we are grateful to all those dog owners who did take part,” organiser Stuart Lindsey told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“The weather was incredibly hot today and I think that a lot of people were put off by the heat.”

During the multiple-class dog show, Crufts agility final winner Anthony Clarke also brought an agility team to demonstrate at the event and raise money for the team to represent Great Britain overseas.
