A drink driver has been arrested following a fail-to-stop crash in Burnham-On-Sea during the early hours of Sunday.

The motorist lost control of his car at the junction of Ramsay Way and Love Lane at 1.40am and careered into a garden, demolishing a brick wall, a wooden fence and a road sign, as pictured here.

But while he managed to reverse from the wall and drive away, police quickly caught up with him after recovering part of the car’s bumper and the number plate at the scene.

A police spokesman told Bunham-On-Sea.com: “A local man in his early 50s was arrested soon afterwards. He failed a breath test and has has been charged to appear in court.”

Burnham Police recently launched their drink drive campaign, as we featured here. Last Christmas a total of 857 motorists were given breath tests across the Avon and Somerset police force area and 136 people were arrested and charged as a result of positive breath tests. Members of the public can 999 or text 81819 if they see someone who they believe is driving while over the limit.
