Firefighters were called to help residents at a sheltered housing complex in Burnham-On-Sea on Friday night (November 1st) when water poured through a ceiling.

A crew of resilience firefighters was called to the property in Barton Close at 9.20pm after concerned residents raised the alarm.

Crews used small tools to isolate the water and halt the flow of the water through the ceiling. The main fire alarm panel in the building was also sounding and crews found water had leaked into the smoke detector, causing it to sound.

Burnham firefighters were striking at the time in a nationwide dispute over pensions, so a crew of resilience firefighters attended instead.
