College awards football scholarships to Burnham-On-Sea teenagers

-

Two Burnham-On-Sea teenagers are among a group of Bridgwater College pupils who have been awarded sports scholarships to further their aims of careers in football.

Caitlin Berry, 16, who will be studying Health and Social Care, has received a football scholarship.

She said: “I want to keep improving my football skills, so this scholarship will help me take my game to the next level. The proudest moment in my football career so far was being nominated Captain for the Somerset Centre of Excellence for five years. I hope I can build on this achievement to become the best player I can be.”

Her friend, Lucy Stacey, has also been awarded a football scholarship and is keen to develop her expertise in the sport.

Jason Gunningham, Head of Sport and Public Services at Bridgwater College, said: “Our new and exclusive Sports Scholarship programme means we are the only college in Somerset to be able to financially support talented and gifted students within their sporting discipline.”

“Students do not have to study sport to be able to be eligible for this, so students can enrol for any course within the college.”
